# Setting up registration pathways

<iframe src="https://app.trupeer.ai/embed/fJ6NmWuSS" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" allow="autoplay; fullscreen; encrypted-media; clipboard-write" loading="lazy" style="position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 100%; border-width: medium; border-style: none; border-color: currentcolor; border-image: none;" title="Creating Registration Pathways"></iframe>

### Step 1: Navigate to the Pathways Section

To begin, open your registration site in the CMS, open the registration form dropdown menu and navigate to the **Pathways** section. Select **create pathway** to create a new registration pathway.

![1-Oct-07-2026-10-46-32-6801-AM](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/1-Oct-07-2026-10-46-32-6801-AM.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=1-Oct-07-2026-10-46-32-6801-AM.jpeg)

### Step 2: Understand What a Pathway Does

Pathways are parts of the registration form that:

- Automatically send users down a defined route and assign them to a specific **people group**, or
- Allow users to select a route themselves to join a specific **people group** in the event library.

For example, you can create a **VIP pathway** and share its unique URL with VIPs (or their assistants). They can complete the registration form without manually selecting that they are VIPs. Once they register via this pathway, they are automatically assigned to a group in the Event App library.

For this example, we will assign registrants on this pathway to the VIP people group.

---

### Step 3: Configure the Pathway Name, URL and Icon

When you set up a pathway, the system generates a **unique URL**. This URL is appended to the main registration URL, and you can define the final part yourself.

Enter a clear and memorable identifier for the Pathway (e.g., `VIP`).

![4-Oct-07-2026-10-46-55-7335-AM](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/4-Oct-07-2026-10-46-55-7335-AM.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=4-Oct-07-2026-10-46-55-7335-AM.jpeg)

Define a 'Slug' which will affix itself to the end of your registration URL to create the pathway link

![5-Oct-07-2026-10-47-02-5007-AM](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/5-Oct-07-2026-10-47-02-5007-AM.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=5-Oct-07-2026-10-47-02-5007-AM.jpeg)

You can also assign an **icon** to the pathway:

- For **private** pathways, the icon is for admin use only and will not be visible to registrants.
- For **public** pathways, the icon is visible on the front end and acts as a visual accent for users when selecting a pathway.

For now, we will keep this pathway **private**, as we do not want non‑VIPs to access it and be incorrectly assigned to the VIP group.

![6-Oct-07-2026-10-47-09-5306-AM](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/6-Oct-07-2026-10-47-09-5306-AM.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=6-Oct-07-2026-10-47-09-5306-AM.jpeg)![7-Oct-07-2026-10-47-28-9499-AM](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/7-Oct-07-2026-10-47-28-9499-AM.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=7-Oct-07-2026-10-47-28-9499-AM.jpeg)

Once configured, select **Submit** to create the pathway.

![8-3](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/8-3.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=8-3.jpeg)

---

### Step 4: Review Pathway Details and Pre‑Fill Options

After submitting, you will see the pathway details.
Here you can also access a tab where you can configure **pre‑filled information** for users who register via this pathway.

![9-4](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/9-4.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=9-4.jpeg)![10-4](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/10-4.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=10-4.jpeg)

In this example registration form, the available fields include:

- Dietary restrictions
- Ticket selection
- Signature field

We do **not** want any of these to be pre‑filled so that VIPs can enter their own information.
Once you have confirmed that no fields are pre‑filled (or configured them as desired), click **Save**.

![11-4](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/11-4.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=11-4.jpeg)

---

### Step 5: Share the VIP Pathway Link

After saving, copy the **registration link** for the VIP pathway.

![12-3](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/12-3.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=12-3.jpeg)

Share this URL with the intended VIPs (or their assistants). When a user registers through this link on the front-end platform, they will be automatically registering through **VIP** pathway.

From the user’s perspective, the registration form looks the same; there is no visible indication that they are on a VIP pathway or that they are being assigned to the VIP group.

![13-3](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/13-3.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=13-3.jpeg)![14-3](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/14-3.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=14-3.jpeg)

---

### Step 6: Create Public Pathways for Activities (e.g., Golf)

You can also create **public pathways** that users can choose themselves.

![15-3](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/15-3.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=15-3.jpeg)![16-3](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/16-3.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=16-3.jpeg)

For example, you might create a pathway for a **golf activity** during the event. This could be used for allowing users to register for a specific event or activity themselves.

In this case, you would set up a **Golf** pathway that users can select when registering.

![17-3](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/17-3.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=17-3.jpeg)![18-3](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/18-3.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=18-3.jpeg)

Configure this golf pathway as you did the Private pathway, assigning it to an appropriate **user groups** in the event app (e.g., “Golf Participants”).

![19-2](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/19-2.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=19-2.jpeg)![20-2](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/20-2.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=20-2.jpeg)

---

### Step 7: Understand How Users Select and Follow Pathways

When users go to register on the front end of the registration site, they will be able to select the **golf pathway** (or other public pathways) if they wish to register for that activity.

![21-2](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/21-2.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=21-2.jpeg)![22-1](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/22-1.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=22-1.jpeg)

Key behaviours to note:

- Selecting the golf pathway is **optional**. Users can register without selecting it and may be assigned to **no groups**.
- Users can later **edit** their existing registration as normal.
- If a registrant did **not** initially select the golf pathway, they **cannot switch** to it later when editing. They will remain on the pathway they originally chose (e.g., standard registration vs. golf).

This behaviour ensures that group assignments remain consistent with the user’s original pathway choice.

![23-1](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/23-1.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=23-1.jpeg)![24-1](https://knowledgehub.crowdcomms.com/hs-fs/hubfs/24-1.jpeg?width=670&height=350&name=24-1.jpeg)

By using pathways in this way, you can automatically populate people lists in the event app and assign users to specific groups based on their registration choices. This is especially effective when:

- You do not know all registrants in advance (e.g., public or open-ended registration sites), or
- You want users to define their own groups and activities without manual admin intervention.

Pathways provide a flexible, automated method for assigning registrants to the correct groups based on how they choose to register.
